What I see mostly being reported is that it has to do with new enviromental policies restricting nitrogen and cow farts and stuff like that. Is that what you are seeing in the Netherlands?

Yes the farmers are getting the blame for everything at the moment. The issue is that airports and heavy industries are not mentioned at all in this. Farmers in the 80 and 90ties when we had acid rain did there part they halved nitrogen from stables. This is about the farm grounds the farmers have its worth lots more if you can build on it. The government wants to talk with the farmers organization but the talk can be about anything except not closing down the farms.

Well that doesn't sound very right at all to me. The airlines get a free pass and the farmers get pissed on. Looks like we will all be eating bugs soon. Except for the wealthy..

We're having a similar problem in Germany and it's starting to get worse. Huge real estate developers are basically the only ones who are allowed or able to buy land because they have to money to pay many times what its worth. Then they get the money back by building these huge apartment buildings on them. Some of our politicians even work for these companies and they are talking about passing laws to make it illegal for any private individual to by any undeveloped land at all in certain cities. So basically the little guy can go fuck himself.

I recently seen a 71 m2 flat for sale in Hamburg for 380,000. Three-hundred and Eighty Thousand fucking EURO! What the hell is going on here? So Im sure it wont be long before they start going after what land the farmers have here as well.

Here the same with housing my house when we bought it 200k now similar houses are going for 350k+. You live in Germany the nitrogen value is 10x higher per hectare then here in the Netherlands. Here its man made the toke a value and went with it. If you look at other EU countries nitrogen does not have a value that is the same in every country.

Do you think we are in danger of a food shortage because of what they are doing to farmers there? I would say yes, especially if such restrictions were applied globally. But I really know nothing about about how farming and our food supply works.

I have noticed from certain posts that you have made over the last few months that you have a better understanding of these things than I do and I think you would be someone who could give an honest and objective assessment of at least some value.

People can differ on what a food shortage is. Something happens in, say, Ecuador and then we have a few less bananas in the UK. For a bit. The situation in Ukraine means we have a bit less of certain types of grain in the UK. For a bit. Food "shortage" - at least in my lifetime, has never meant anything more than supermarkets having a bit less of a certain thing or two. For a bit. I don't class events like that as a food shortage, it's too broad. It's just running low on some items. For a bit.

That's a good point. I guess what I'm really talk about is if wether or not it will become so hard to feed ourselves that our society could be in danger of falling into complete chaos.

If you mean because of the Dutch thing, no, I can't see that happening. It might become the case for other reasons, though.
