Orbiter - Space flight simulation

I cannot reach anything further than the moon, that is to say I can align with the other planets but I cannot target on them to transfer. What am I doing wrong?
Are you using the Transfer MFD? If so, I think you need to set the reference to 'sun', when planning an interplanetary transfer, since it is the body both you an the target planet are orbiting (source would then be Earth, since you have the same orbit as Earth, at least until you do the orbit eject). At least that is how IMFD works, which I can recommend for interplanetary travel, since it also has an 'orbit eject' program which brings you onto a plotted course, complete with Burn-vector MFD and Autoburn feature. Makes interplanetary travel a lot easier.
If you want to do it the hard way (that is, manually, without plotting aids beyond what,´s in the standart installation), you,´ll probably have to escape Earths orbit first (accelerate to more than about 11 km/s), leave Earths gravity well (You can see Earths influence in the orbit MFD), set references to 'sun' and then do the transfer to whereever you want to go.

Ah, that might work. I'll try using the sun as a reference point next time. Good thinking, Sir.

I'm sorry... I ran the tutorial DG or whatever simulation... THEY DON'T EXPLAIN SHIT. I don't know what the fuck is going on, what the fuck a node is, what the hell they're talking about, it's so fucking confusing... So many acronyms, so much confusion, I don't understand ANYTHING but the fact that I'm going to the moon and that there is a spaceship somewhere. That's all I know...

Anyone gimme a hand here? Any good tutorials? This is just mind-boggling...

I was exactly the same when I first started playing it. That's space flight for you, confusing as hell.

I watched a lot of tutorials on YouTube and, for going to the moon at least, this series was by far the most helpful:

hmm... maybe you could take a look at "Go play in space", which can be found here: http://www.amcsorley.dsl.pipex.com/play_in_space.htm
It's a bit outdated, but it should give you a good general overview of how stuff works.

The tutorial australopithecus linked looks great too.

Other than that, trial and error. Play around and see what happens. If you need help on a really basic level, like explaining the different MFDs and the values they show you, let me know.
