Nottingham, Derby and that sort of general area, UK

I now live in Derby. Hooray!
The irritating thing, however, is that York seems to be the place to be for sceptic type stuff. And that's... impractical, to say the least (wandering around, probably intoxicated, in an unfamiliar city for six hours to catch a train back home is not a good idea for a nice night out).

Is anyone here based in the general vicinity of Derby or Nottingham? And are there any sceptic groups that you know of?
So far I've discovered the existence of a Skeptics in the Pub group in Nottingham, but that's it.

There is one in Sheffield, I believe Peter Harrison (of richard dawkins forum fiasco blog fame) attends that one.

Simon Perry who runs Leicester Skeptics is the guy who hosts most of the Skeptics in the Pub websites. It's lovely that you should cite York as a hub of sceptical activity but we don't have our first meeting till next month! (http://yorkskeptics.org.uk/ plug plug!)

Nothing in Derby that I know of but near you there are:

For sciency stuff you might want to look for a local cafe scientifique too... Again they seem to be in Leicester, Nottingham and Birmingham. http://www.cafescientifique.org/

Also If you're looking for a secular/humanist angle: http://www.leicestersecularsociety.org.uk/

Leicester is also accessible...
I'll have to go to each of these in the next couple of months...

Someone was setting one up in Coventry, though I'd avoid here like the plague just out of principle. It's like Royston Vasey.

Is that because... you'd never leave?

Oooh, my coat! Thank you.

I have been in Derby for about 5 years and I can report there is VERY little to do.

Definitely nothing in the skeptic side anyway, but if you're looking for arty, music kind of stuff I recommend this site (I write for it) we link lots of events and things to do. Enjoy.
