If I have gained any wisdom it was a hard fight: outrage has made me wise, but at a staggering cost. Cowards cheer what heroes execrate. I choose to anathematize the devil-crowded fascist mob that is currently destroying the country from within under the feigned slogan of making the USA “great ‘again.’” The United States of America has yet to step up and join the adult community of nations striving for greatness.

The American Ship of State has been hijacked by an insane, ravenous pirate lacking scruples, sense, intelligence, virtue, compassion, sensibility, morality, ethics, and human empathy. This blood-lusting privateer is intent on selling America and all of its citizens upon the auction block of greed, hatred, and violence.

As the number of poor citizens increase; as the “middle class” go under; as the food lines span across the city blocks; we have been told that the country is at its finest because the fabulously wealthy are thriving.

Upon the gibbet of apathy, justice hangs. If America were a Democracy, this abominable plight would never have been inflicted upon us: the citizenry of a Democracy would never have allowed such a nefarious, shameful state of affairs. Our current Oligarchy rests in comfort in their beds knowing that the American citizens are appeased, stupefied, placated, pacified, and rendered harmless by Bread and Circuses.

If with one hand you hold a pistol to the head of a man fettered in chains, and beat him with a club with your other, what recourse has he but to attack you in secret, when your back is turned?

I am fond of my country and I detest those who feign to govern me. The USA government commits evil under the pretense of doing so for my benefit: a nefarious pretense that I denounce and repudiate whole-heartedly and resolutely. It is against my interests for the government to create enemies who wish me dead; it is a crime against my soul for the government to rend refugee babies from their mother's breast. I deny the slander and libel that the government does these things for me in my name!

No United States of America patriot has ever voted for a fascist. No patriot ever approve of an enemy-funded sociopath calling for martial law to prevent the adults from regaining control, with the intent of staying out of prison indefinitely. Where have my fellow patriots gathered to weather the storm? In their basements, with their eyes pulled out.

As for civic duty? Any individual, government, or business that demands allegiance has shown they are unworthy of it: if not given freely it is not noble--- it is self-betrayal. Fealty is to be reciprocated, and if it is not, then sedition is the proper response. The investiture of a loyalty oath is the surest sign of a government unworthy of respect, let alone loyalty. A government worthy of loyalty will receive it without prompting.

It is self-evident that no citizenry ever benefited by its government being its greatest enemy.

We are currently being threatened by martial law. With the pretense of "security," liberty is assassinated. What profits a society when it must place every citizen behind iron bars and concrete walls to feel itself safe? To defend themselves against their countless imaginary enemies, the American citizenry cheerfully shackles itself in fetters to the dungeon wall, and then hands the keys to gangsters, cutthroats, butchers, and thieves. We defend ourselves against enemies that do not exist, and ignore the “elected” fiends who crack our bones to feed upon our marrow.

American citizens face a choice: they may choose to be loyal to their country, or they may choose to be loyal to the government. Current governing madmen have made it impossible for a decent human being to choose both. As for me, I choose loyalty to my country; I pledge sedition and everlasting enmity to the fascist USA government.

As for democracy, I'm all for it: it's far past due, and high time we try it! I'm not at all satisfied with the "democracy" we have: rather than just the ears and tail of the animal, I want the whole beast.

Your post contains a lot of layers of discussion that would cross many topics. I think I would say that I am in basic agreement with you across the majority of them.

The current state of US politics is parlous, but the reason for that state is more than just Trump, his picked sycophants, and the cult populous. Trump, albeit an especially venal individual with apparent narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies, is the product of the system - he did not cause it, but it certainly led him to power. Similarly, the Republicans are absurd in their self-serving greed, their tampering with elections to keep them in power despite actually having a minority of voter support, and their truly despicable leaders like McConnell who has come to look like the perfect cartoon caricature of a blood-sucking leech parasitizing the national body it feeds from. But it's also not just the Republicans, because the Democrats have shown repeatedly that they will ignore the will of their left-leaning voter base to continue their corporate-sponsored right wing legislation. But it's also not just their fault because they exist in a neo-liberal consumerist culture that worships individualism to a hedonistic degree, with prosperity doctrines, manifest destiny, and American dreams always enriching the individual at the expense of the community.

But discussions like this become boring as we all just echo each other in agreement. Real discussions require an antagonist, so I would prefer to find a position of disagreement with you so that we can dig deeper.

You say you are fond of your country. How so? The state machinery is corrupt to its core. Lobbying corporations have far more impact on the US's policies than any vote you or ALL the people you know could have. The US is an absurdly wealthy nation, but continually ranks poorly on every single quality of life index; education, transportation, life expectancy, affordability of medical treatment, social mobility, skewed legal processes, etc. etc., on and on and on. Environmentally, the US is consuming 6 times per person what the planet can sustain, and even its modest attempts at self-regulation are continuously under assault by wide-spread anti-science/anti-intellectual/anti-expert ignorance. White supremacy is STILL a major thing in the US, with fascist groups all over the country openly carrying the kind of armaments you'd only expect to see in a well-funded war-zone. Ethnic minorities still face routine discrimination across all aspects of their lives, not least from the criminal 'justice' system. And look at the seventy fucking four fucking million fucking people voted FOR Trump!!! So at least half the population of your country are either contemptibly stupid or just plain selfishly nasty, happily engaging in a despotic crash and burn just to make the other half of the country feel bad.

So what exactly is it that you are fond of? Honestly, if it all came crashing down and y'all could start again: what exactly of the current US is worth saving?

Good morning. :) I am fond of the USA, not its government, nor its fascists, nor its police violence, nor its racist citizenry. By "my country" I mean the land and its citizenry. Divorce the USA from its politicians and its homicidal assholes, and it would finally be great.

divorce 1938 germany from it's fascists and the persecution of jews, immigrants, rom, et al. and it would finally be great.

that's just ridiulous. divorce any society from it's ills and it would be great.

America is not great. it's ideals are mediocre, and it's implementation of them horrendous.
