How hard is it to get a job doing...
research?
Highschool teaching?
Postsecondary teaching/lecturing,
or or some type of assistant for a more professional biologist?

And, how much schooling would I need to do these? B.S or Ph.D, or what?

I live in America, but it would still be helpful to hear what it's like in other countries as well.

I doubt it's extremely different as we are dealing with higher education, and science no less.

depends. i think it is possible to join some non-state organization and write grants (right word?) for the international ones. like saving the nature, trips in wilds or something of that kind, animal researches. at least that can be done here.

I have a biology BA and have taught at the highschool level. A friend of mine that just has a BA works for a pharmeceuticals company... and likes it well enough. There seems to be room for him to advance, though he certainly will never be in control of the research, at best he will just manage other people who also do lab work.

My only friend that went on to a PHD (in Virology) is finishing it up, and hated the experience - He had originally planned to stay in university research but the whole process has been so painful that hes looking to go into the private sector - probably either working for the FDA or doing bio-marketing consulting with drug companies. To teach at the college level you generally need at least a Masters pref. a PHD, though some colleges have lower standards.

Thank you Ozy.

Highschool teacher works for me, but if there are a lot of other jobs that only adds to it.
