I'm offended, so I can attack you now then Nancy, right?

Freespeech: Suck it!

I actually find the violation of the Danish embassies and the pogrom against Scadinavians to be much more outrageous and offensive than a cartoon attacking a minority religious faction - sorry, that's just the way it takes me.

Well, concerning the original caricatures, I neither considered them especially well done or funny nor especially helpful in our (non-muslims) difficult relationships with the muslim world. It's not making things more easy if we offend those who are on the fence or who are "liberal" muslims alongside the nutjobs. But that's a different issue.

But free speech is free speech. End of story. If people want to tell stupid things, it's their right. If your journalists make your life as a prime minister more difficult, live with it, why should the prime minister have apologized.
"Sorry, but we have those stupid things called human rights and apologize therefore?"

To blame it on the victim is disgusting. It's like saying it's a woman's fault that she was raped, she shouldn't have worn that dress

Actually, this is the part that seemed extremely bizarre and took me off guard:
Danes are no more racist than any other western nation but many of them, especially intellectuals, have serious issues with religious believers.
She makes it sound like the cartoon could not be racist because Danes are no more racist in comparison to the western world.

<enter sarcasm>

Surely, there's no racism in the western world. Thus, there's no way the cartoon could have racist sentiment in any way. And by the same token, we all know all (granted, she said "most") Danes feel exactly that way about religion too. Oh wait. That sounded funny. Let me think about that.

Poorly written, ill-thought through.

I do know of an evil magazine (that is well known for its racism) that decided to republish the cartoon carrying the banner of "free speech." I might believe them, if they didn't bandy around hate literature as frequently as they do.

Not to say I condone the attack. I'm actually quite disturbed that either man would risk the little girl.

Oh I forgot about that point. I think this needs to be said:

ISLAM
IS
NOT
A
RACE!

Does this make me an intellectual?

Indeed. it's quite racist to not make the distinction, and that ignorance is at the root of the problem.

Heh, well, your being here and taking an interest in these things makes it likely.

But agreed. She's basing her argument on a sweeping generalisation about an entire nation of people (which happens all the time, granted, but it's still a stereotype). The fact that she just happens to do that in the same sentence that she says "Danes are no more racist than any other western nation" is pure irony.
