If God Was Real, Would You Worship?

This is an interesting discussion I've had with other atheists. If God, the one with a capital G, the Abrahamic creator of everything, was real would you follow his rules?

Personally, I would not. I do not agree with his rules, I do not believe him worthy of worship based on his actions and inactions and I'd be willing to burn in Hell forever based on a matter of principal.

As a follow up question, if God was real but was lying about his power, would you want to go the next step and try to destroy him?

I'm not sure on this one, it would matter how much benefit I could pull out of the situation. If God was powerful but not all powerful, I could possibly manipulate the situation to acquire power myself of some degree and I am power hungry if I am anything.

So, throw logic and reason out the window for a minute and let's play pretend; what would you be like if God was real?

No.

And that answer goes for any definition of "God" someone wants to propose. My knees aren't designed to touch the ground.

I would not follow this god. Why would I worship something I believe to be evil when I am not evil. And I would try to overthrow or do something bad to that god if I knew that it would succeed.

Depends on the god.

Which gods would you consider worthy of worship, or would it be a decision you'd have to make when faced with the reality of it?

I don't think I'd ever worship any being. But I would respect and follow any supremely powerful being that doesn't ask for nor even desire my worship, much the way I follow and respect, for instance, my martial arts master.

Worshiping a tyrant? That's not the way I was created. Surely He of all people must understand.
I'd definitely acknowledge him though and have a chat with him from time to time if at all possible. You know, get a mutual respect/understanding thing going. I don't really believe in might makes right, you see.
I'd not try to overthrow him though. Too much of a bother.

A god who was worthy of worship would be one who is genuinely a complete badass and does loads of great stuff. Get rid of poverty for example.

I ask, which god because 'Abrahamic God' isn't as precise as you'd expect. Even in the Bible were seem to be two types of a god, the Old and the New.

I'm actually working on a story where the Abrahamic God is effectively schizophrenic. Basically he has 3 faces on one head, and they change constantly. One being the Jewish version, one is the Muslim version, and one is the New Testament God. They even argue with each other.

Regardless of how powerful a god may be, there is no reason for him demanding worship, and i don't think it's a matter of "if god existed i wouldn't worship him", but more of a matter of "i couldn't bring myself to worship anything, even if this thing had the capabilities for boiling me for all eternity", this position might be counter pragmatic, but it's just the way my brain Works
On a side note, the biblical god is really not that powerful, (at least in some parts of genesis), he was mad at Adam and Eve for eating the forbidden fruit and thus being able to distinguish good and evil (a godly trait), he threw them out so they wouldn't eat from the tree of life and become immortal, because then would they be gods. In addition to this, in the story of Babel, he fragmented the language of the people to prevent them from working together and achieving anything

I would capture God and take him to a lab for scientific analysis. Hmm.. first I'll have to figure out how to capture an omnipotent God. Perhaps this would do the trick: "Oh God, I pray you build a cage around yourself so strong that you yourself cannot escape it."

Imagine what happens when a new species is discovered.

I would love to read it. When will it be published?

Knowing me, never. I am a procrastinating perfectionist. This means I take forever to do stuff, then usually destroy it when I am done as I don't consider it good enough.

I've destroyed more novels and novellas than some people have written.

That's too bad. Do you keep backup copies? :)

Short answer, no. I'd never worship any god.
On the other hand, I consider Megan Fox to be a sex goddess, so does that count? Obviously I'll only worship her if she... takes me... :p

Oh and I shouldn't be mean to/about MF, she's one of only 10 or so starlets I respect. Plus, she's a real person. (Or so I'm told.)

If God was real, I would not be here as the person I am today. We, as a race, would not have adapted or evolved the way we have. There would be no technology as there would be no need to invent things to make our lives easier. There would be no society as we understand it, just a small population of nudists running around in Africa

I as a being may well worship an almighty deity , but I would not be the person that I am now

(That person has to go to a meeting, so I apologise and hope you understand my half baked rationale)

I'd have a hard time not staring at her toe-thumb.

I also found her more attractive before the plastic surgery. You'll notice she can't seem to actually close her mouth anymore.

Other than that, I'd totally do it.

You would stare at her thumb when you could be staring at her... eyes?
And I don't care if she can close her mouth or not, for what I have in mind with her, it's better if it's wide open. ;)

I think for me, I don't think I would worship. When I was a theist (oh goodness those were some wacky times o_O) I didn't worship then either. I just can't worship something/one based solely on authority. Hell, I can't worship. I really don't even know how that mindset works or feels like.

I'm the same way, I don't think I'm capable of worship. The minute someone tries to exert authority on me my knee joint locks into an upright position and I start standing a little taller.

Be it my father, teachers, cops or gods, my lack of ability to respect authority has gotten me in trouble my whole life.
