Human Origins The grand conspiracy!!

Facebook is a treasure trove for this garbage but this particular conspiracy theory makes me laugh. Having said that I'm not educated enough to deny the claims with facts. Since things are so dead lately maybe we can have a discussion on this. So what's wrong here, what are the mistakes, what's just plain BS, etc.

Forbidden Archaeology is nothing more than half-truths and outright hoaxes. The host right at the beginning gives one good example of this (two minutes in), he mentions the Paluxy River “Man Tracks.” The true story is that some of the dinosaur tracks looked like giant human prints, thus the story was started that human prints were found there. Than during the Great Depression people started carving human tracks and selling them to make money. Again, this is a great example of a half-truth and hoaxes working together to perpetuate a modern myth.

Now, here are my go-to sources for fringe archaeology, Jason Colavito and Archaeology Fantasies. I honestly do not have the time to sit through forty-eight and a half minutes of nonsense (even though watching fringe documentaries is one of my favorite things to do) at this time. However, cross check the claims made in that pseudo-documentary and if neither one of them cover it, leave the time when the claim is made and I will put it to bed.

I always wonder how people come up with this stuff? Are they just trolling or what?

Hi, I somehow missed your post and only managed to approve it now. Apologies.

As to your question... I don't think these people are trolling. Proper faking of stupidity is actually really, really hard, so it's very rare.

It's a lot easier to just be genuinely stupid, and having one's simple mind try desperately and incompetently to come up with answers to hard questions.

It's on the rise.

My background's palaeoanthropology, so I've kind of felt like the litmus paper of the 'culture war' for years, even at the beginning of the interwebz it was clear there was a rather sharp division between users. Then and in years past, it was religious fundies with their 7 tribes of Israel shit, but there was always a nastier thing lurking behind which has now come to the front... or perhaps more accurately, scurried up, oozed from dank cracks.

To me, vids like these are kind of like the Wedge Strategy - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedge_strategy

Their objective is to confirm ancient, nasty, spiteful biases and justify people holding onto those 'true' values today. Those true values invariably are white supremacy or some folksy ethnic nationalist bollocks. But these are nasty prejudices that cause a lot of modern people to have problems with ancient hateful dogma written by Iron Age violent tribespeople. It's really hard to get a Christian in the UK, for example, to agree that it's right to have slaves, or that the moral value of bashing in baby's heads is clear... but it's in the very Bible they hold onto as their primary and only text sent, designed, dictated by the all everything power of everything. It's just becoming hard for people to swallow.

However, it's not because people are becoming more informed, that's for sure. And if you can present a neat little conspiracy and obfuscate your way onto their television programs, you don't need to pass any degree of honest skeptical fact-checking. If you had the budget to make a nice looking show, I guarantee you could get on a show entitled "Up is Actually Down!" on air and it would air on national TV.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

The thing that will befuddle me to the day I die is how we can so clearly be living through a Golden Age in nearly every possible indicator, whether it be knowledge, technology, innovation, freedom, survival, or any of those we've concocted in our recent semi-post-scarcity... and yet so many people refuse to be a part of it, preferring clearly dysfunctional hand-me-downs that offer only false post-death hope. Boggles me, that's for sure.

Anyway, to the point, I don't think it's trolling in the sense of doing it for a laugh. But it's trolling in the sense that Trump is President, and he actually thinks he's a real President. That kind of non-reality level of confidence.

“History is much more the product of chaos than of conspiracy” ― Zbigniew Brzeziński

That being said, these people believe in their theory because that is more comforting. If you present truth before them, they're always in denial mode.

People always want to believe in alternate theories or conspiracy theories as they are always more fascinating.
