How to Fake Search Engine Censorship

I'm using a search query that looks like one thing but is, in fact, another. This particular search query uses unicode characters that look identical or similar to normal characters. In this case, I've replace one of the "a"s in Tiananmen with look-a-like character from the Cyrillic alphabet. Nobody uses such a tampered string when writing about Tiananmen Square so Google naturally doesn't find any results. Hence, it looks like they are censoring. As long as you don't delete the entire query and start again, modifying the query in place will continue returning results that appear "censored".

Yes... Well I followed his links and saw that they work. I mean, in the mean time people have been using the same cryllic homoglyph attack so it returns more than nothing (well, bing only returns the page that I link to), but it does work, at least until there's a whole slew of pages made declaring google to be an evil censor.

One supposes you're too young to remember how some righteous and honest Christians of Youtube went about an attempt to silence their critics... It's well documented, and is in fact partly responsible for this site's existence. It is appropriate to have a sub-forum with this explicit purpose. One supposes he knows all about the tactics of VFX, Neph, et al because he uses a similar system himself. Posting approval to weed out "trolls and idiots" is very much just a smokescreen. I'd bet money he's not above being selective with what he allows through sometimes.

well you can't just silence all your critics and then say your ideas are uncontested. Which is a horrific hypocrisy.
