Hi all, I'm probably going to lurk a bit more until I get a better lay of the land.

But in the meantime I'll share a bit of who I am.
I'm a fourth generation atheist living/working on a farm in western Canada.
I have 2 grown daughters and one almost grown faux son. (definition - raised him, didn't birth him)
The reason why I joined is because I found several discussion topics interesting and hope to be able to learn and contribute.
I'm self educated (definition - didn't attend university) and believe there is something to be learned every single day.
I'm a bit of a hermit, but have found lately that I crave more social and intellectual intercourse, which is probably due to my daughters flying the coop and both now living on the other side of the country.
That's all for now :)

A lurker who has revealed themselves? Interesting! :)

Anyway, welcome aboard. I hope you'll join the discussion sometime, as it sounds like you definitely have something to contribute.

A quick question, is "faux" son really an expression people use? Here we tend to call it a "bonus" son.

Enjoy your stay! :)

Oooh! Oooh! What a coincidence! Lately I've been having increasingly harder to quell ideas about getting the frack out of my country (US) and going to Canada. Thing is, I really have no real clue as to what Canada is like other than it's definitely colder than Arizona and certainly has to be less insane than the US.

Anyway, welcome! ...ah, uh...I'm forgetting something...Oh yeah, cake...over there. Have some.

Thanks for the welcome,
No, I'm pretty sure "Faux Son" is something unique to our family. It started years ago when my youngest introduced him to friends at school as the "faux bro"
It seemed a good moniker to the rest of us so it just sorta stuck.

Oh televator I'm thankful nearly every day now that my folks chose Canada to immigrate to in the 60's (they did have the choice of US)
I am aware that it's an election year down there and things do tend to go a bit crazy during that time, but I don't think I've ever seen quite so much insanity and backward thinking as I have this year.
BTW - presently outside here is 9C or 48F and in Phoenix (which is the only town I googled) it's 16C or 60F just to give you an idea of temperatures
Cheers and thanks for the cake
