The movie was pure gold to me. I'm not a die-hard fan of the original series, just enough to notice names and accents and connect them to some clips I've seen of the series. I think you need at least that kind of basic name-to-face -knowledge about the series to follow the fast skipping of personal history in the beginning.
For the characters, the actors are brilliant all around for the good guys. The baddies on the other hand are pathetic and dumb. They are so stupid it hurts. If you can forget that, it's a fun little action rollercoaster.
