Game of Go, anyone?

I am trying to learn how to play Go, and I have gone on the Kgs server, and done fairly well. However, the part in which I regulary mess up is the beginning. A 19x19 board is huge, and even with star points as guides, I seem to screw myself over again and again. Does anyone have any opening move tips that may be beneficial? Thanks!

I've been playing Go for a little while, but recently fell out of the game. I use KGS as well, and if you'd like I'd love a game!

(I apologize in advance if you are no longer playing, and I posted on a useless thread)

I used to play Go a few years ago, but I gave it up as everyone I played with was either too advanced that it was pointless to play against them or too weak and I destroyed them easily.

there are books written that cover the opening of the game and how to respond strong to attacks early in the game.
i have one at home, but that type that all out.... best is to go to a much more experienced player in your neighborhood and ask him to teach you a little bit.

That was strangely one of the most impressive things i did for the local go players in my area, finding them on my own.
by the way what Kyu are you? im a reasonable 6K.

About 13k now, i go up, then down rapidly, as I make or break the game in the first few moves. I get the basic structures and things, but my openings have been described as "erratic, sporadic, and illogical". I've been 10k at one time, and was 20 until recently, now being 13. If you two are on kgs, what's your names? We can meet up.

im not on KGS, the reason is that i prefer a real board instead of a screen.
the only thing i can say what you need is experience, play more games, perhaps on a couple of 9x9 boards.
there is a small program of a 9x9 to practice on...

here is a link which may be to your liking

Thanks, dude, that looks good. I also like a real board(thank you ebay :D ), but I have yet to find any go players in my school. I should try the professors...
