Great list of books for freethinkers everywhere. I thought it would be interesting to do a poll and see what the LoR membership are reading.

Top ten:
1. Why I Am Not a Christian by Bertrand Russell (1927)
2. The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark by Carl Sagan (1995)
3. The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins (2006)
4. The End of Faith by Sam Harris (2004)
5. The Bible (critically read)
6. The Works of Robert G. Ingersoll
7. God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens (2007)
8. Collected Writings by Thomas Paine (pub. from 1776 to 1806), Paine (1736-1809)
9. Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris (2006)
10. Why People Believe Weird Things by Michael Shermer (1997)

The next ten are found at the American Freethought site http://www.americanfreethought.com/wordpress/essential-freethought-library/

So which ones have you read, and which ones will you read next?

I'll go first.

I've read: The Demon Haunted World, The God Delusion, God is not Great, and The Collected Works of Thomas Paine. I'm also over halfway through Letter to a Christian Nation so I counted that one too. I have a copy of The End of Faith so that'll be the next book on the list I read.

I've read the God Delusion and the Bible. I believe it's best to see both sides of the argument before deciding which side to promote.

I'm sure there are a lot of great books for freethought that you didn't include. This is Water is a nice example, which deals with being conscious and critical thinking in a very simple, accurate, and effective manner.

Nice thread by the way. I'll browse those books.
