So .. I followed Musk for a month on Twitter and I started wondering ... he says a lot of stupid stuff, could it be, that he is an idiot? Also calling a lot of people pedophiles.
Then I checked his achievments ... and he got 2 patents to his name, which was .. really disappointing.
Then I checked his most recent project ... the Las Vegas Loop and well...

I think he might be an idiot.

Whats your take?

If you're interested in Elon Musk's ideas, and how they can be potentially debunked, look up the YT user thunderf00t, and voice of thunder (his secondary channel) - he dedicates a lot of time towards debunking crap ideas in painful detail, a lot of those ideas happen to belong to Elon Musk.

Thanks for the recommendation, I was looking for something new to check out recently, getting a bit tired of "Atheist debunks ..." videos.

I think he was somewhat lucky when the service company he helped found, merged with the bank that created PayPal. I think he is a person who has been both clever and lucky and loves his job. Being the CEO of 2 companies is not a task I think many people could handle. He is probably too tired from working all the time too really give a fuck what people think about think about him. Looking smart on TV is not the easiest thing in the world to do and the purpose of communication is not always to convey intelligent information.

Greetings,

He suffers from Asperger's, as far as I know, which may explain his lack of social skills (inappropriately calling people paedophiles, etc.).

He's also had to resign as CEO of Tesla due to certain run-ins with the SEC, and recently came under fire for his tweets - the SEC are concerned that his tweets are not being monitored/approved by the board of directors.

Kindest regards,

James

Leaves the question, how come he is being worshipped as the 2nd coming then?
I could understand it, if he was charismatic, but he definitely is not.

Because people have no idea how it all works take the car with extra boost sounds good but it will not work. Same with the hyperloop it will not work in vacuum its To dangerous.

So ultimatly, he is an used cars salesman, just with cars with LEDs on them. Makes sense.
I kinda think of feudal mentality though(Assuming someone has a godly quality to rationalize him ruling over you). He is filthy rich, so people, Americans especially, assume he must have done something right to have earned that and that they can achieve that too, with hard work, just one big idea or on sheer moxxie and every attack on that, is denying them their dreams.

If anything, I would say Corporate executives are admired less in the US then in other countries. People work to make money, its the same everywhere. But in Europe your job title plays a much bigger role in the determination of your social status.

Did he ever stop being a dick?

I used to follow Thunderf00t many, many years ago; then he became a dick. I tried to reason with him that the community he was forming through his actions was a very poor reflection on him, a guy who'd otherwise been a beacon of scientific reasoning on YT. He disagreed, his community became ever more vicious and hateful, I blocked his channel.

I see what you're saying, but most Europeans aren't adherents of prosperity theology - that's largely the Protestants of the USA and various sub-Saharan African nations.

I have to admit, I think Musk is a tool.

Before I really knew who he, as an individual, was - I thought it was cool, a new era of hyper-rich investing in otherwise wastefully expensive future technology. Then he started with the pedophile accusations. For example, here in Thailand when the kids got trapped in the cave, and one of the rescuers who risked his own life to help those kids got called a pedophile on a Twitter account with hundreds of thousands of viewers just because he didn't take the time to bolster Musk's ego: at that very moment I started considering him a tool, and even if his company ends up producing wonders, I doubt I would ever change my mind.

Yes, people work to make money. No, its not the same everywhere. Thanks to robust social policies, making money is something of a friendly competition in Europe, while its bloodsports in the US, cause you die in a ditch if you do not succeed.
No, there is no way for you, to earn a billion dollars through hard work. And no, the rich do not work for their money(Okey, they are doing light clerk work), they get born rich and from there on, the family fortune keeps generating more and more income. Musk, Bezos and Gates, make more money while they are having a quick nap, then you or I will ever earn in our lifetime, no matter how hard we work, no matter how smart we are.

Thunderf00t is still someone that uses sarcasm really a lot especially when it comes to Elon. If you look at his other work that is pure science he behaves differently more science like, but he uses science to debunk everything even Elon. Is he a dick well like everyone sometimes. He now has a serie running about the Apollo 13 that is interesting he shows and tells why it did go wrong and why they where able to save the crew.

I should've been clearer - I mean when he became a nearly full time antagonist of Anita Sarkeesian. That was nasty, and not the kind of dickishness that everyone can sometimes be.

Same here.

Well to be fair Anita Sarkeesian needed to peck down a bit but his way could be seen as to much. But he does not do that that much anymore its better then a few years ago.

Nothing Anita Sarkeesian ever did warranted a 2 year campaign of encouraging personal hatred of her. It was nasty little mob rule.

In fact, what did Anita Sarkeesian even do? Dare suggest some criticism of the way women are portrayed in video games? And for that, a bunch of angry young men hiding behind internet anonymity invested massive amounts of effort and time into threatening and attacking her.

I completely understand a bunch of idiots doing that; that's what makes them idiots. But when someone who'd made his name for scientific experimentation, explaining science, and being a voice of reason actively nurtured a community of angry, violent arseholes ... I don't think that's at all easy to excuse.
