A bit older news by now, but the Park Services eventually gave in to Answers in Genesis over the permit for Dr. Snelling to collect rocks to study sedimentary folding:

It will be very interesting to see what results are produced by this.

To be blunt, his research has no scientific merit, so there's no reason to provide him a permit for scientific research. I think they should have stuck to their guns. It would have made for another fun court case where expert eye-witnesses would need to admit that Creationism is akin to astrology.

However, now he's got the permit, it just means he'll do what he's always done: write one paper for submission to a real scientific journal, which will say one thing, and write an 'article' for a Creationist outlet that says completely the opposite.

To me, the history of his work is sufficient to show that he's not a credible scientist, even if he knows how science works, he refuses to use it when conducting his religious pursuits.

Still, worth keeping an eye on - thanks for sharing!

I actually emailed one of the geologists who reviewed his proposal. I cant post what he said ver batum because I didn't ask for permission. However, he essentially told me that he and every other geologist who actually cares to look at the folds in the rock layers can find fractures in them, and other signs of solid state deformation. Its there, its in the literature, and totally refutes the entire claim Snelling is looking to reaffirm. Complete bunk.

But it works. The echo-chamber lets it happen, undisturbed by reality.

The thing about Snelling is he's unarguably a liar; he speaks out of both sides of his mouth. He knows what the evidence shows, and he shows he knows what the evidence shows by writing accurately the ramifications of what the evidence shows.

Then he writes a 'paper' for AIG which declares the contrary.

Reminds me of Aesop's Fable the birds, the beasts, and the bat. Only, Creationists will welcome him regardless because they desperately need the veneer of legitimacy.
