Dr. James White is too good to debate us lowly YouTubers

Hi Guys; I don't know how many of you are aware of the Christian apologist/debater James White from the A&O ministry. His YouTube channel is DrOakley1689. My annoyance with him began when I watched his video on Bart Ehrman's latest book "Misquoting Jesus" and he had the balls to question Ehrman's credentials in a rather backhanded way. I quickly learned he never allows comments on his video's (unless he forgets to turn them off for a few hours) and he doesn't even accept e-mails unless your on his friends list. His excuse for this is that there are too many Atheist trolls and he is too "busy" to police the comments. Apparently he much prefers you call his little christian talk show as is suggested in his profile. I did post a polite but admittedly drunken response video to his Ehrman video in which I asked what he was afraid of (on my crossoldman channel) and told him I thought it was pathetic he was hiding from debate on YouTube.
On his latest video, which deals with some Roman Catholic issues he has, he forgot to turn off comments. I quickly added a comment stating that it was good to see he applied the same arrogant loathing to fellow Christians as he dioes to Atheists and gays. That elicited a response from one of his A&O minions defending him. I commented to his minion not to worry as I'm sure my comments would be deleted as soon as he saw them and sure enough 15 minutes later comments where gone and disabled. I sent his minion and e-mail saying I told you so and again calling White a coward for refusing to engage in open debate. The minion wrote me back stating that White had ounce posted a video critical of Dawkins and "Igonant atheist trolls" left rude negative comments. My reply and his reply to my reply are posted below.

I guess you miss the point I was trying to make. I'm quite familiar with the incident you refer too and we all know there is no shortage of trolls on Youtube no matter what camp your from. But I'm afraid what you are misrepresenting is the number of legitimate questions he choose to ignore under the guise of "waste of time" and "mudslinging". In large part what you call crap I call free debate and that is the crux of the issue.

-As I said before, perhaps you yourself have legitimate questions-but I've see a fair number of atheist vids and most come across as extremely arrogant-calling Christians everything from immoral to mentally ill to being responsible for all of the evil in the world when in fact we have little influence on what happens in it nowadays (sadly)> 'Rationality' gets tossed around as a term a lot when they seem to constantly engage in the most irrational, hateful and bizzare behavior themselves.

White simply won't engage in a debate unless he controls it as per your suggestion to call HIS program. Frankly I think a more appropriate action is to have people start posting Video responses to his postings. He won't be able to delete or censor those will he? Why is it only he sees a problem with trolls, I know of no popular atheist on youtube that bans comments no matter how may trolls leave comments.

-When it comes to debate, he's gone into plenty of debates when he wasn't 'in control' as you can see in his videos. Perhaps he thinks it's a waste of time to engage people on the internet who he doesn't know anything about and may or may not be serious about a legitimate discussion. If he is going to engage atheists, he'll probably challenge Dawkins or Hitchens (perhaps he already has?) in a public forum. As for video responses, those can be blocked as well-but if you are respectful and make logical points I don't think he'll have a problem with it.

Perhaps you are not aware of the Voteboting and flagging campaigns that atheists on youtube have been subjected too over the last few months. I will be glad to refer you to several videos on the subject, but the bottom line is well over 100 atheist channels have been hit by these underhanded and illegal attacks. I think all those atheist "Trolls" have shown remarkable maturity and restraint by not retaliating in kind to Christian and Muslim channels.

-I really don't keep track of other channels outside my own and those I subscribe to so I don't know much about the flagging stuff you mention. I've only flagged videos on a couple of occasions myself (one where it was clear a scared cat was being harassed and run around by some idiot and another which was terrorist propaganda showing images of dead U.S. soldiers with the enemy marching over them). As for the atheist channels you say are being harassed-after seeing how some of them behave I have little sympathy, besides I know of Christian channels that have been harassed as well, Dr. White himself had a video yanked down where he 'dared' to criticize Sean Penn for remarks he made even though the clip he used was less than a minute. And I know of a couple of Christians who have had to make more than one channel because of their channels getting shut down.

I'm sorry but having a video flooded with negative comments does not compare to having a whole account banned because of false flagging. I'm sure you would be quite upset if it happened to the channel in question. So I remain unconvinced that as a prominent Christian spokesperson Dr. White supports Free Speech and is willing to engage in open debate. His actions say otherwise. Listen if your an apologist for Dr. White just say so and I'll quit harassing you with my views for I understand the distain with which he holds atheists.

-Well I have never seen James White do anything to flag or ban another person's account so being angry at him for regulating his own channel over the flagging incidents is silly. And no I'm not an 'apologist' for Dr. White, I just think you're overreacting-as I said before if he is going to engage atheists-he's going to go after the big boys like Dawkins.

You may be right but I think it more likely White is a cowardly prejudiced social leech who is desperately afraid of having his ignominious intellectual capabilities exposed in an uncontrolled environment. Perhaps that is why he is fond of picking on other Christians and Muslims and much less eager to engage the really tough questions Atheists pose. I do believe the general consensus was that Erhman kicked his butt in the one debate they had. Which is why he has resorted to questioning Erhman's credentials as though a Phd. from Princeton Theological Seminary was less than his degree from Columbia Evangelical Seminary. White has gone so far as to claim Erhman was "out of his field of expertise" when wishing to refute Erhman's observations on a biblical passage. Of course White never gives his own qualifications for being more qualified as a textual critic than Erhman. His basic intellectual argument is always the same "They are wrong because I say they are wrong." One would think he might be well served by practicing his limited repertoire against the more humble YouTube atheists before going up against a "Big Gun" again.
Anyway, congrats on the awards and please do keep defending the leech, perhaps you could tell us his justification for being against Free Speech, or if you prefer explain just how decency is under attack by secular society as he so often cries.

You're getting upset because the guy says he doesn't have the time or interest in arguing with some internet small fry. He's probobly telling the truth, and doesn't have time or interest in arguing with you. Now, maybe if you were someone of even remote importance things would be different, but that is more of a reason to be mad at yourself than him.

Well I can understand that point but I have not been asking him to debate me so it's irrelevant. What don't you understand about calling the entire Atheist community on YouTube "irrantional trolls". The leech has no problem posting dozens of video's on YouTube promoting his particular brand of Christian bigotry and name calling those he doesn't agree with. Yet he refuses to become a actual member of the YouTube community and allow open discussion or refutation of his ill conceived positions. In fact what I actually asked him to do was just allow comments on his video's. In short my objection to White cowardly position is not that he won't debate me personally but that he is simply trying to use YouTube to as free advertising to promote his hate speech, remember he won't even accept an e-mail, he will only condescend to talk to you if you call his (carefully screened I'm sure) talk show. I may have asked him at some point to please respond to profMTH's videos since they are well put together and seem to contradict large chunks of his biblical teachings (I use the word loosely). If he can't handle that then he certainly has no business claiming he's ready to debate Dawkins or Hitchens. Need I point out that we are talking about a man who has apparently has transcended Jesus himself since he can not be bothered to communicate with the common man and has judged us to be unworthy of his presence by virtue of our collective filth.

So, your complaint is that he is using youtube to publically post his views? Isn't that exactly how youtube is supposed to be used? As for not allowing debate on his page/comments/etc, he doesn't have to. If he did youtube wouldn't provide the features that allow him to block comments.

He probobly has a PHD in theology or something. Something from a state college that isn't hard to get. Or maybe he's a "Doctor of Divinity". Who knows.

James White has a D.Miss from Columbia Evangelical Seminary. he has also authored tons of apologetic books and pays people to debate him so he may sell various media of the debates from his ministry. He's definitely not a Hovid type character. He is also a vile little man who uses his "expertise" to promote hateful views of almost everyone who doesn't kowtow to his fundamentalist baptist version of God's word. This would include all other religions, the Roman Catholic church and especially Atheists, gays and freedom of choice people whom he constantly fear mongers to his followers in an attempt to extract as much coin from their pockets as he can. (I'll bet you didn't know you where part of an evil plot to destroy God's word.) So yes he does have a legitimate Dr. in front of his name if you accept Columbia Evangelical Seminary as a legitimate institution, I do. Thanks for asking.
