IMO your best option is to get involved with your local Atheist (or Science group) since I am sure not all here are atheist. I guess this would work better for atheist however.
But then see if they have a Public Access Show (like Atheist Experience in Austin, TX). Join that group and help promote it and if they don't have a public access show at that moment try and help get one out there. That way your not dropping down to others views and going around disturbing people door to door.
For my self I have already signed up w/ Atheist of Florida and hope to get their Public Access show up, as well as Web casting and so on. It's the best way to inform people IMO next to setting up lecture and all. This could also be used via science method and still have some religion in it if that's your view. I agree that many in America are just ignorant of the facts and choose not to even listen.
