Calls for a criminal inquiry into the death of Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests after video emerged showing him being shoved to the ground by police.

From what I saw on the television, it was clear that the police caused this trouble. The bank of Scotland, alone amongst all the retailers on the street was left mysteriously exposed rather than boarded up - and was duly attacked by protestors - with the real possiblility of agent provocateurs sparking things off. The State does not like it when the public stages protests about matters that go against their agenda. They will play dirty tricks. Peaceful demonstrators wanting to go home are roughly pushed back by riot police and then, when it is so late that the media is asking why the protestors are still there, the police charge in hitting everyone - with the excuse that the crowds are obstinately refusing to leave...

No real shock there, although it is probably too early to make a judgment. Unfortunately, if you give a sick person a badge and a gun, he suddenly feels like he has the power to do anything he wants... and because too many people automatically blame the victim when the criminal wears a uniform, often cops CAN do anything they want.
