Concerning Letterman-Palin

I'm sure you all already know the story, I just wanted to say something on it.

I stumbled across this Faux news video clip:
http://www.comcast.net/video/fire-david-letterman/1153170100

I looked up John Ziegler quick, and an excerpt of his listing on Wikipedia reads "In 2002, wanting to return to radio, Ziegler was hired by Louisville, Kentucky radio station WHAS. Once again, his tenure did not last long, as during a Ask John Anything segment, he discussed the physical attributes, intimate attire, and genital grooming of Darcie Divita, a former Los Angeles Lakers cheerleader and WDRB morning television host with whom Ziegler had a relationship until Divita broke up with him. WHAS fired him on August 27, 2003, and Divita sued for $2,700,000, claiming libel and defamation of character. However, on May 24, 2005, Ziegler was found not liable for damages as Divita was deemed a public figure by virtue of being a television personality. The case is currently on appeal."

Just seems rather hypocritical to me that someone with this on their record is calling for Letterman's firing. What do you think?

99.99999% of the people complaining about this are being hypocrites. Anyone who voted for McCain, watches or works for Fox "News" or right-wing radio, and a big chunk of the mainstream media are being hypocrites if they complain about this. The fact that Letterman's joke was in terrible taste is hardly the point, when the people complaining are only angry about the target, not the joke.

Hell, half of those people complaining said worse things and weren't joking at all, and are now complaining about a bad joke when they said worse as part of shows that they claimed were "news" oriented.

Oh FOX. "Fair and Balanced" as always.

This is just one of those things that's being blown out of proportion, it seems. The whole reason those Barack Obama race jokes are scary is because there's a good few that believe that sort of thing. I fail to see the punchline of joke involving a burning doll held up by a noose. It's not a matter of racism, just lack of humor.

I heard someone say once that fox news were fair and balanced just not accurate - seems about right.

That's like saying Outback Steakhouse is authentic.

Of course, I'm biased and like seeing Fox's spin in other news outlets. (The Onion, for example). That's right, I'm saying the Onion is a better source of news. sosume.

The whole "fair and balanced" thing is logically contradictory. The news cannot be both fair AND balanced in most situations, because there is only one side to a story, the TRUE side.

For instance, the world we live on is a mostly spherical object in an elliptical orbit around the sun. Well over 99% of the evidence supports this view, and well over 99% of people accept this view. Somewhat less than 1% of people believe in a flat Earth, and/or believe that the sun orbits the Earth. A fair discussion of the issue will ignore the less than 1% viewpoint, which could be seen as unbalanced. A balanced viewpoint would present that tiny percentage as being equivalent to the over 99% view, which would be unfair since the minority view should not be treated as roughly equivalent.

Wow, co-incidence I'm studying for a management exam and one of my employee motivation examples is Outback Steakhouse - is it any good? I've never been.

I don't know about the Onion, although they are pretty funny. Jon Stewart on Comedy Central is a pretty good source of news though

The food itself varies from person to person, and that usually varies too. I like the burgers and their cheesy fries and aren't much of a fan with anything else, but you could transplant that with just about any "home style" resteraunt with their burgers. They're all huge, dressable, and are sometimes good enough for 2 out of 3 meals a day.

The problem most have with Outback is that it perpetuates a kind of nonexistent way of living for Australia. The walls of every resteraunt is lined with fake boomerangs, hunting hats, and alot of other things you could take out of a Hannah-Barbara Aussie rendering. Some have been pissed off by it, while others point out that most home-style resteraunts are built this way and are usually a dime a dozen (T.G.I Fridays does with New York and other 'Big City' in the US).

The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are supposed to be funny, putting another spin on the news. Though, they (They being the Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and crews of both shows) are concerned with becoming more accurate at telling news then the broadcasts they're ripping off.

A typical piece of Onion spin is something like this.

These nutjobs tend not to have a sense of humour, so of course, their first response is to over-react in an angry way if anything seems to slight them in any way.
