Cheating Devices/Codes

After I beat a game, all I want to do is cheat at it. I own two gamesharks and an action replay, plus dozens of bookmarks for sites that give codes (for said devices and in game). I dunno, whenever I use them I feel like I'm... cheating. I usually play for a few days and never touch the game again after that because there's no challenge left, so Im a bit torn on whether or not its a good idea. On one hand, it can be fun as hell and some of my shooter stats are fantastic, on the other I cant play the game without the use of cheats after that (singleplayer modes at least) and I feel like Ive ruined the experience. Thoughts?

I make a point of not using cheats at all on single player games.
To use two examples:

When I first got Rome: Total War I used cheats quite a bit once I completed a campaign. I conquered the world city by city within a few decades by pouring money into my empire and instantly building troops where I liked. Then I got bored and didn't do it any more. It sapped the fun out of it. I now never play vanilla RTW. I always use mods because there is little enjoyment to be had with the original game for me. That experience has completely put me off cheating.

With Minecraft, I know full well that there are ways of cheating, but I don't know how and I don't want to know. I don't use single player so much these days; I prefer online. But when I do go on single player I always do it "properly" because I don't want to use cheats.

Mmm... Since I usually stop playing a single player game after I beat it anyway, I wouldn't see a problem with cheats extending the life of the game for a bit. Unfortunately for me, they don't. By the time I finish a single player game I've already gotten good enough at it that playing without cheats makes me about as invulnerable as playing with cheats (as in, cheats don't really make the game any easier).

The only time I tend to use cheats is with difficult (read: time consuming) games where I've lost my save file. And even then I'd prefer a level skip cheat or a save file from someone else.

I personaly don't feel that I have compelted the game until I have done it without cheats, as a personal rule the first go arround must be without cheats.
But then I will want to use cheats, because for one reason it is fun to exagerate thing and take it to extremes that you wouldn't otherwise be able to do in the regular game.

I'm with MGK on this one.

First go through I want legit, but depending I may be playing for the gameplay elements or the story elements.

In some cases where I'm more interested in the story elements of a game, I'll plow through an area with cheats. That's rare though. If I'm playing for the game play, chances are cheating isn't going to make it much better, but sometimes it does make it more interesting when you can try some goofy shit.

But for instance, I tend to dominate Mega Man 2, just obliterate the game - I'll post a speed run some time. Likewise, I love sequence breaking Super Metroid. It's fun. I don't need to cheat to enjoy these. But sometimes, it's nice to start Mega Man 2 with all the boss weapons, or jump onto Zebes with a fully suited Samus.

And Sim City and the such? Sometimes it's nice to just sit with a stack of cash and build.

But for the most part, cheats tend to ruin games for me, so I avoid them.

This is exactly what I do, especially with rpgs. First go, I like to earn my gil, second or third time through I use item and leveling cheats just to avoid spending 8 hours of killing goblins ;) Also there are some unique codes for certain games that just make it more fun, ie pokemon games have a walk through walls code that is just awesome

Although, I would like to point out that sometimes cheats just make the game. The GTA franchise, for instance.

True. Flying a car down the street whilst looters burn and the occasional RPG heads your way as smoke rises from skyscrapers in the distance is unquestionably good fun and cheats probably add several hours of replayability to the GTA games.

I was cheating at Half-Life 2 earlier. Loaded up all weapons after I got the combine pistol. Something awesome about sniping a machine gunner with a crossbow bolt.
