Hello, League of Reason.
Like many (probably most, possibly all) of you, I'm a YouTube pilgrim to this site. I've been a member since its inception, but have only just now decided I should get involved in some capacity.
So, about me. As my name would suggest, I'm a bit of a hockey fanatic. I'm a lifelong Pittsburgh resident, and full season ticket holder of the Pittsburgh Penguins ...the 2009 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins ! I've only missed 3 home games since 2005. Two due to inclement weather, and one due to pink-eye. My dreams of playing were dashed a long time ago; due to knee injuries, undeveloped (at the time) local hockey programs, and (as much as it pains me to admit) not enough skill. I can still dominate the local beer leagues though, on the rare occasions I get to play. Against other amateurs, I'm like a smaller, left-handed (in regards to shooting), less conceited / asshole-ish Alexander Ovechkin (as I'm an admittedly selfish, big hitting, goal scoring puck hog); complete with a mirror-sheen half shield. And I wear #98. So that's where I get the moniker from, more or less.
What else. I'm a big 80's music aficionado. I like more than that, but I never tire of the experimental synthesizer driven music of the 80's. DEVO is my favorite group of all time, for a variety of reasons. (New album this year by the way! Can't wait!)
Also a product of the 80's is my gaming addiction. I like current gen stuff a lot, but still love firing up the great games of the NES /SNES/ Genesis days. Metroid, Zelda, the Mario games, Sonic the Hedgehog, Castlevania, Mega Man, etc. ...awesome.
I'm a big Science buff, primarily interested in Astronomy, Cosmology, Physics, Astrophysics, Geology, Astrogeology, etc.The stars took hold of my imagination since the first time I looked into the night sky and that child-like fascination remains almost unchanged in me on the cusp of turning 31. It's like Christmas morning for me every time I read about a new discovery about a star, an exoplanet, or all these Kuiper belt objects (which are mostly planets as far as I'm concerned) that keep getting discovered.
I have a crap job, but sometimes dabble in freelance graphic design / Illustration work to make a little extra cash. I'm working on building up my digital studio to do more in the way of comic books and general concept art. Since about 2000 I've fallen in love with the process of writing as well (as may be evident in this post). I've written a novel, a rather lengthy novel (about 540 pages without the manuscript format), and hope to make that my primary source of income one day. I'm in the process of editing that book and hope to find a publisher and/or agent when I'm finished. Even if I don't, I have a veritable log jam of ideas dying to be hammered out via my keyboard. I'll keep writing until I break through, however long that takes. [ And as an aside, before anyone suggests it, Lulu isn't an option. I have to do this legitimately. Interpret that how you wish. ]
