Just a thought I had about free will

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to see it, shouldn't it still be standing? :D

    Batman: The Dark Knight Rises

Was it just me who thought Bane sounded like Victor Meldrew as Darth Vader?

William Lane Craig and his nonsense ethics

I think you have missed something crucial here, in that he isn't just claiming that he himself has a gut feeling, but we all do. He is assigning his subjectivity onto everybody else in order to claim objectivity, which is a festering turd of an argument. And even if he's right and deep down we...

Reasoning with one who protests reason

Yes, that's a much better description of what goes on. They don't realise they're being dishonest because their reason for repelling conflicting information is because of the conviction of their beliefs: "I don't need to hear this because I've already got the truth".

Reasoning with one who protests reason

Yes, I take your point. However, you did manage to reason with your colleague upto a point, regardless of her original motive. Only when you mentioned the taboo word "evolution" did the shutters come up and the fingers enter the ears. Of course I can't possibly know, but this is where her...

Reasoning with one who protests reason

I don't think anyone is beyond being reasoned with. The barrier isn't reason, but honesty. This guy needs taking out of his comfort zone where he relies on the dishonesty of his creationist advisors to answer the questions for him. This'll force him to think for himself for a change and the lies...

    I accepted Atheism today

MD, after chatting to you the other night, I'm glad to hear that you've finally come to some sort of conclusion. Not that my first impressions hold any relevance, but you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Not many break the indoctrination spell. Good luck to you! :D

    Ey Up!

No worries! Thanks for airing one of your foibles though. Am I allowed to use it in future banter sessions?

    Ey Up!

My fault. "Anyways" is pretty much local dialect around my neck of the woods, or maybe just in my social circles. I meant to pluralise it anyway. Anyways, nice to meet you. ;)

    Ey Up!

Are there any at all? It's a shame I can't say the same about my positioning of smilies!

    Ey Up!

Hello there to anybody who's interested! To start off I'm an atheist and I'd like to thank my parents for that, not because of their "indoctrination" of it (if that can happen with atheism) but because they allowed me to find out things for myself and make my own decisions. I don't have any...

Why I believe in a God and an Afterlife

You can still think positively without hoping there is life after death. Do you not think that because life is limited it is therefore more unique and sacred? Is it not better to take life by the horns and give it a good thrashing??? It's weird that people who believe in life after death are...
