    Creationist Inquiry

I apologize for jumping into the middle of this thread. Normally I'd at least respond to the OP but I don't get to participate on web forums nearly as often as I'd like so I try to be economical... I don't think so. My biology is a little weak so please (anyone) correct me if I'm wrong but...

Hilarious conspiracy video: The Story of Your Enslavement

Re: Hilarious conspiracy video: The Story of Your Enslavemen What about this frightens you? I can find it funny because the author of the piece strikes me as rather impotent. He didn't even offer any kind of solution at the end. There was no message of action so... what are the consequences...

Propriety as an analogy to Morality...

I would argue the latter... They are comparable in the sense that they both "rest upon personal opinion." What is rude to you is not necessarily rude to me. What is funny to you is not necessarily funny to me... How can one even make sense of the notion of something being "objectively rude?"

Propriety as an analogy to Morality...

I just came up with an analogy to morality that I think will help expose the flaw in the belief of it being objective: propriety. Claiming that there exists an objective morality makes as much sense as claiming that there exists an objective propriety. In other words, will anyone argue that...

Hilarious conspiracy video: The Story of Your Enslavement

I have to admit that, by the end of it, I couldn't tell exactly what his point was supposed to be. Still, I thought watching his thought process was hilarious and I'm curious to know what others think...

    A Reasonable Fox News Panel!

While I agree that indifference is better than active opposition, they could denounce it as folly and a distraction but they don't... probably because they don't want to turn away potential followers. Why shrink our congregation for the sake of reality? Hell, for all we know, their...

    trust in wikipedia

All the God damned time, for both serious and trivial things... All sorts. I use it for both interesting trivia and as a reference for work... I trust all of it. I recognize that pages can be vandalized or amateurs can add poor information but, so far, it has yet to let me down... I don't...

    A Reasonable Fox News Panel!

I don't know if it was filmed live or not but what we've all watched on the posted link is clearly an archived recording so while I find your theory interesting, I don't think it can be quite right... First, I must say that it's a sad exaggeration to say that these religions are "fine" with it...

    A Reasonable Fox News Panel!

It's funny you should mention Dawkins because the priest, Jonathan Morris, has spoken with Dawkins before: Jonathan Morris is a regular religious contributor to Fox News. In case you're too busy to watch the clip, he brought out the tired old claim that Hitler was an atheist and followed...

    A Reasonable Fox News Panel!

Recently, Sen. Marco Rubio was asked by GQ "How old do you think the Earth is?" and he gave a seriously wishy-washy answer in an obviously political attempt to avoid offending anybody, saying "It's one of the great mysteries." Fox News put together a panel of religious leaders and liberal...

    Legalize Prostitution

Hold on a second... You do know that all these "side effects" that you're talking about, such as human trafficking, exist right now despite how illegal prostitution currently is in North America, right? Is it your contention that these "side effects" will increase if we legalize it? You don't...

Thunderf00t gets his own FtB blog...

They're really not... but even if they were, who got "crucified?" What's the "crucifixion?" His name wasn't even revealed. He's remained completely anonymous. Maybe you're the one overreacting? It was made especially awkward by her preemptively telling him not to hit on her and him hitting...

    Mac elitism or snobbery??

...and the religious right don't engage in hyperbole and misrepresentation any more than the left. The left vilify and follow party lines just as mindlessly as the right. That the Republicans appear to be so partisan is just confirmation bias... ...or maybe Mac users really are...

Reasoning with one who protests reason

I do believe it and I honestly don't understand why you fail to. Have you been debating the religious so vehemently for so long that you can no longer relate to your opponents? The main source of the conflict between you and Randy is that you two have a different opinion on epistemology. You...

Park51 or the "Ground Zero Mosque"

Just a quick warning that I haven't read the entire thread. I read the first two pages and then skipped to the end 'cause I was curious to see how the conversation progressed and then I saw this post... I saw you bring this point up before but I don't see why you're bringing it up now. At the...

Looking for books on why we're wrong (as opposed to how)

I'm not certain this question even needs an answer. It's amazing that we can do any sort of logical reasoning at all. That we don't do it perfectly seems only natural...
