    Post Birth Abortion.

"Post-birth abortion" is, at face value, an oxymoron, but that doesn't stop it from being a useful term. The expression "a toy gun" is technically oxymoronic, because if something is a toy, it's not actually a gun. But it's clear what's meant, and that's exactly my point. You're telling me it's...

    Truth and lying

Dear Inferno, First, let me have a quick word about your definition of lying: "(1) It's dishonest, deliberately false. If you think it to be true but it's actually not, it's not a lie, merely a falsehood or error. You have to know better before making the statement. (2) You can lie to yourself...

Chicken Ethics : middle class consumer ethics

With regards to point 1: Vegetables are MUCH cheaper than meat. A genuinely poor family is thus likely to consume far less meat. With regards to point 2: At no point do the chickens get "sacrificed" for the cause. Granted, the millions of chickens will go to waste, but the chicken's life is...

    What's your opinion on zoos?

I don't think zoo's are a good thing. I'm not convinced that it has any educational value. People can be taught about animal preservation without necessarily having to see an animal trapped in a cage. I'm all in favour of animal conservation areas, but that's not what I would call a zoo.

    Post Birth Abortion.

I disagree with your point. Post-birth abortion is arguably a type of murder, but that does not make the word redundant. You yourself admit that "euthanasia" and "murder" are two different things, when in fact euthanasia is merely the act of killing someone under certain conditions. The same...

    Post Birth Abortion.

I agree with anyone saying that post birth abortion is equivalent to infanticide, and if forced to give a good-or-bad answer, I would concede that this is a bad thing. But I can't help but notice that a lot of people's arguments seem to be relying on the basic premise that murdering a child is...

    Truth and lying

I deliberately haven't argued any of the points I made, because I felt Inferno should be the first to present his arguments. I merely meant to state my position. I'll clarify, and perhaps add a few justifications, so that even if you don't agree with me, you may see where I'm coming from. (For...

    Truth and lying

Greetings, Before the debate properly begins, I thought I would let everyone know where I stand on this. Unlike Inferno, I don't have any hard and fast principles by which I live. I agree that Inferno's second principle would be a sensible way to live a moral life (although I prefer the more...

    Misquotes

"Let them eat cake!" Supposedly said by Queen Marie-Antoinette (the wife of King Louis XVI of France), after hearing that the French people had no more bread to eat. The quote is typically taken as an example of the inability of the nobility to relate the lower classes during the French...

Ah, I was looking for this thread! Found it :) My name is Alexander, I'm Danish but am currently studying in the UK. I'm a friend of Inferno, who invited me here to continue a debate that we began a few weeks ago. I'm above all a Mathematician, but I try to keep my interests varied. I'm quite...
