Love that film. ......
Being raised without christianity, We didn't really celebrate xmas.
We did do a solstice party and all our family would travel (usually to our place) and we'd have a 3 day party with lots of food and an exchange of small gifts usually home made.
I suppose my biggest fear...
Ok, so the focus of the question has shifted.
originally you were talking about the social aspects now we're onto environmental.
The fact that sometime in the future the universe may explode, sun go supernova etc doesn't really have a bearing on this.
I mean, by this logic, why eat your veggies...
Ok bluejay, I noticed you edited your original post, so that obviously changes how I would have responded to it.
Originally you wanted to know why or even if you should participate in advancing our society as you're feeling kinda meh about the whole thing.
Not conduct a peer review.

Except for the women and slaves of course. Not "everyone" had the sabbath and kept it holy. Because not "everyone" was considered a person.
It's not possible for everyone to take the exact same day off, no matter how well you plan ahead things happen, even in my little corner of the world...
Re: The War on Christmas is real, and atheists are winning i
I love that clip that said "atheists are unhappy and they want everyone else to be unhappy"

Unless you're growing thousands of plants without a license that is... but I know...
Ah fair enough.
I guess for me I can actually see the difference that others have made by being active in working for change and improvement and I consider those changes positive things for my life.
Nothing changes in society unless there are people out there pushing for change.
The following...
It could be the stage of your life.
I know when I was much younger, I felt like that... why bother? what good is it? who has time/energy and I'm only one person etc etc.
I was also fully up to my ass in working two jobs, trying to raise my kids single handedly and I was feeling way to overtaxed...
Ok it took me a couple of days to read through this entire thread.... man all the fun stuff happens while I'm away working.
So, whenever I talk about actual atheism there's always a lot of double negatives going on, so please bear with me.
Even after researching and reading everything I still...
Re: Does marrying in churches in the UK strengthen the churc
Here in my city, a group of us are working towards getting churches out of the completely tax exempt umbrella.
Which they are of course, fighting tooth and nail.
Going by the original question (which lately I seem incapable of...
