Of course not. My intention wasn't to marginalize the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, that's why I said that the American public has been relatively removed from those wars.
Edit: I couldn't remember the exact number of troops deployed during the wars that I listed, so I figured that a comparison...
There isn't necessarily a connection. Upwards of 50,000 Americans died during the Vietnam war, upwards of 30,000 during the Korean war, over 400,000 during World War II, and a whopping 600,000 died during the Civil War (if you include Southern casualties, that is). In contrast, the wars in Iraq...
If you are going to invoke God as an explanation for how things were created then it is perfectly reasonable to ask how God was created. If God required no cause, then why does the existence of the Universe require a cause? Invoking an intelligent creator doesn't help us explain anything...
I started reading this book a couple of weeks ago but I couldn't finish it. Collins's nonsense about the 'Moral Law", combined with his denial of animal altruism, forced me to put down the book.
There are still people who take Irving seriously? The man is a nut job. Also:
"...there was no 'Second World War'"..." Really? One of my grandmothers is from Posen, I wonder what she would have to say about that....
Couldn't the United States have dropped a warning bomb off of the coast of Japan? Also, didn't Stalin already know about the willingness of the United States to drop bombs on civilians in order to win a war?
Good points, Aught3. Also, I think it is worth mentioning that the allied bombing campaign over Europe failed to break the will of the German civilians, the German bombings of Stalingrad and Leningrad failed to force the Soviets to surrender, and the Japanese atrocities in China failed to...
I'm opposed to the bombs as well, but recently I entered into an ethical debate with a group of patriots and according to them I got my ass handed to me.
These questions have been bothering me lately, and I figured I would get some people's opinions on the matter:
1. Were the atomic bombings necessary?
2. If the bombings were necessary, should the United States have waited longer than three days to drop the second bomb?
3. Were the...
This whole Atheism +â„¢ thing seems redundant. Skepticism and tolerance of other people aren't rules for a club, they're a way of life.
Also, I was under the impression that Dragan Glas was Christian. I'm so confused....
-I didn't know whether to post this in the science section or the skepticism section; my apologies if I chose wrong.
I got bored one day and decided to take my old Ouija board out of the shed. I tried to use it, but the planchette didn't move at all, excluding the little motions made by my hand...
I fail to see why anyone is defending Thunderf00t after all of this bullshit. Likewise, I fail to see why anyone defended Dawkins after he made the 'Dear Muslima' comment. Are these people afraid of disagreeing with popular atheists? Afraid of criticizing them? Fuck that. Also, screw the...
