This thread is to discuss, you guessed it, Climate change. But in a more focused way. Inspired by ideas touched upon in other threads.

Discuss away!

I'm guessing there must be like a computer generated climate model the politicians console before they go on TV and tell us how much danger we are in and what laws we need to protect us from the danger of climate change.

Is there a program I can download somewhere which has accurately predicted climate, say for the last 100 years? Retroactively, of course. Or for the last 50 years or whatever..

Climate and weather are two different things of the same coin. Weather can be predicted by super computers and people that are trained by picking the most likely model. Climate is the history of the weather by averaging you get numbers that say this year it was 30 degrees last year 29,9 degrees etc etc, climate is the long game weather the short one. To know the difference watch this video.

Are humans at fault yes we are abusing the Earth in ways the Earth never seen before. We need to change as humans but change is hard for everyone but it starts by doing small things/steps. The first thing we can do is infrastructure make it so that we do not have to drive miles to work or get groceries, second solar power. Give people money so that prices are like 1000 dollars to a home. Small steps at first then bigger and bigger but if you are going to fast people will not follow. Look at the EU x% of 1990 emissions less in 2030 then x% in 2050 etc etc. Now global pandemic and with it less cars on road, airplanes, factories not running at 100% et etc and we still could not meet the emission standard by the courts here in the Netherlands. But now the EU want even more on paper, on paper everything is possible but this is the real world and it will never happen because traveling would become almost impossible to start with.

Keeping out of the way, but I highly recommend Potholer's series. it's often a little bit behind the curve because he's busy and he's properly rigorous, but he's the best source for dealing with the bullshit by far.

I wrote a short piece about the detailed physics of climate energy budgets, i.e., exactly how absorption works, etc.

I have a piece in the works that treats AGW more comprehensively. I have to say that individual events being claimed as unequivocally a result of climate change is a new thing in my experience, but it's not like we haven't known for some time that there was going to be such an event before much longer.

We also now have unambiguous measurements showing that insolation exceeds radiation, which is the smoking gun of all smoking guns. Then there's the first objective measurement of the balance at the Northern terminator of AMOC, just in time to tell us it's right in the critical region for cut-off (I discuss the mechanism for that in the linked post) and that it could happen at any time.

The crisis is upon us, and all that's left is the reverberation of 'I told you so'.

Greetings,

Somewhat concerning - clicking on the "My Witterings" link results in a page saying "Blog has been removed".o_O

Is Hack alright?

Kindest regards,

Hey, dudes.

Yes, I'm OK. I'm engaged in some rebranding and redesign, so the blog has moved. I'll update the link in my sig.

I'm not far away, and I log in occasionally to check things, but I'm engaged in self care, and there are elements here that aren't conducive to that.

Anyhoo, I popped in to share something with you on this topic that I just cobbled together based on new research that's relevant here.

Let's Stick Together...

Greetings,

I thought it might be a case of redesigning your website though was worried that it might be something else.

Glad to see you're alright - take care of yourself, one can only take so much "fuckwittery" before it gets too much ("the stupid - it hurts!"). ;)

Kindest regards,

James

I presume you mean "scientists," not politicians.

By "laws" I assume you mean "regulations." There are thousands of them regarding CO2, NO2, CFC's emissions. It is a mystery to me why you believe that politicians should warn us of the crisis instead of the world's geophysicists who have been warning us since year 1856.

No, there is not "a program" for accurately projecting human-caused climate change: there are a dozen of them, and you would need a mainframe computer and space for billions of data points.

Fortunately you already have the correct projections, in spades. Even Hansen's 1980 projection is accurate. So was and is Exxon's projections.

You are welcome. Any thing else you wish to know? If so, get remedial high school chemistry classes.
