Hi LoR folks.

When the server transitioned last year, I had a problem in that I could log in but was unable to start a thread or post a reply in a thread. After trying, and failing, to get in contact with the admin for many months, I nearly gave up on this place. Eventually, I managed to get in contact with We Are Borg who fixed my issue.

I know that others have also experienced this, for example Rumraket was last seen Mar 22, 2021 but hasn't posted since May 2, 2020.

Similarly, I just spoke to Dragan Glas who has had exactly the same problem I experienced but is still unable to post.

It seems to me that this is something we all might want to fix so that we can allow back members who were always very active and engaged like the above two chaps.

I appreciate this might be a case of there being a will to do it but just not enough time - if that's the case, perhaps others can help out in some way?

I can check and adjust the permissions of any user, I'll start with DG because I was wondering where that guy was!

Hmm... His permissions look fine to me, although I have made one small change at the ass end which is the only potentially wrong thing I can see, can you check with him now? Is he able to send DM's here or are you in contact with him on another platform? @Sparhafoc

If you can recall the date when the server first shut down last year, I'd be happy to trawl back through posts to find users who were engaged at that time but who haven't posted since the migration to a new server.

It was here. Exactly as I experienced, he's able to reply to private messages here, but is unable to reply to a thread or start one.

If he can't post now then @We are Borg will have to take a look, Drags is showing as registered (in other words, not awaiting confirmation) and his user state is showing as valid, I'll force his status to invalid/rejected and then change it back again in case it's some sort of "refresh" issue. If that doesn't work it's over to Borg on this one.

Ok I've deliberately messed his permissions up and then put them back to how they should be (although this is how they were before I started tinkering) - hopefully this works, let me know?

The mailing option in Xenforo and this domain is not working as it should, strangely enough the contact us forum below in the footer is working. I’m trying to sort it but i’m going in circles so i might need assistance from Xenforo, i can email without issue with clients like outlook.

p.s. i emailed Dragan Glas from my phylogeny explorer project email address a new password to the email we had on file.

I dont think its that he can't log in, I think he can but he can't post to any threads

That's right - same as I experienced.

In fact, when the site first came back up, I could post as normal. Then some time later (can't recall all the specifics) I started getting a message every time about not having the posting permissions, and that was on everything: if I tried to start a thread, if I tried to reply to a thread, and if I tried to write a PM. Strangely (or perhaps illuminatingly) I was still able to reply to PM's just as Dragan Glas was able to respond to my PM.

I've got no relevant expertise in server maintenance, coding, or anything relevant, but that never stops anyone else, so why should it stop me? :) It looks like some permission settings were automatically adjusted in the transition and these still haven't been identified and fixed. If Dragan Glas can't post for the same problem I had, then perhaps all other absent users who were frequent participants prior to the transition are also experiencing it?

This is SD checking Sparhafoc's permissions just for added spookiness :D
Couldn't resist (promise not to do it again!)
:D

Its called impersonate its a great add-on you can look what is wrong with permissions. The only drawback is that you have full access.

Can old users create new accounts and combine that new one with their old account?
Yeah I think this might end up being the best way forward, I can't see what's wrong with their permissions, they all seem as they should be and yet there is clearly some error somewhere so I can only assume it's a migration glitch. I'll recognise all the old users so if they make new accounts it should work, if they get caught up in the filters I'll spot them - we can worry about merging posts between accounts once they're successfully back here.
