Whatcha reading at the moment?

I finished "A Dance with Dragons" the other day. Before that I read "A Feast for Crows". I liked them both and I can't wait for "The Winds of Winter".

Last year I listened to audio books of "A Song of Ice and Fire" and only now I realised how many things have eluded me.

Next up, "His Dark Materials"

You're the second person who tells me that the ending wasn't the best.

I'm 50 pages into, so not enough to say anything. One thing made me laugh, though. Experimental theology :lol:

I've been on a fantasy kick this year:

Wheel Of Time- On the whole this was very good. You can skip books 9 and 10 and barely miss anything though. Seriously. Nothing happens.

Mistborn- Interesting "magic" concept in this one. I found it easy to read. I will read more of Sanderson's work at some point.

First Law Series- Not a whole lot of "magic" in this. I listened to the audio books for a large portion of this so I miss more of the story than I would just reading. I found it funny without being too silly. This one seemed closer to reality than most of the fantasy I read. Set back to the 1600-1700's and add just a dash of magic to the fighting.

Malazan Book Of Fallen. I've only read the first three books of Malazan. It's... different. Nothing is spoon fed to you so it can be difficult to keep up with. The "magic" isn't easily understood and so far isn't fully developed or explained. I've read three books in the series and it's just starting to make some sense to me. So it takes some serious commitment to get to the pay off. Perhaps too much.

Someone recommended Greg Iles to me and I've started reading his work to take a break from the fantasy stuff. Black Cross and Spandaux Pheonix were WWII fiction books that were excellent. The Penn Cage series is good but gets repetitive. I had never heard of him but if you get a chance to read one of his books I recommend it. None of it is particularly deep but it is entertaining.

I thought Stephen King put out some of his best work in a while with Doctor Sleep and Mr. Mercedes. If you like King these are a good read.

I'm currently not reading any fiction. I came here looking for inspiration. Not sure what will be next yet.

If you're on a fantasy-trip, read the "Kingkillers Chronicle", book 1+2 are out and we're waiting for book 3.

I finished "His Dark Materials" today. It's great and I recommend it to everyone.

I started reading the first book in Mistborn trilogy last week. Today I spend all day reading it because I couldn't stop :)

Only epilogue left.

Meanwhile, I'm reading for my Medic-Exam, for my pedagogics exams and economy books because shit, the economy is fucked.

Well, I failed at taking that break. I started reading the 3rd book in the trilogy the day after the post and finished it 10 days ago. I think it's my favourite fantasy book right now. I ordered 4th book in the series, The Alloy of Law.

Hitchens - Mortality is just finished, so I went straight for the next thing in the larger-than-life pile of books I should read at some point and found God,No! by Penn Jillette. Seems like a semi-autobiographical book, and with a guy who has basically lived carny life in his youth(and mid-life), there are some hilarious stories.
